This wiki has served us very well, but as of summer 2012 we have become a Google Apps School and are collaborating and sharing in that venue.
Welcome!
Note - As of July 2010, I will no longer be adding links to tools and sites to this wiki. Instead, please go to my diigo bookmarking account to find my continuation of such collections. http://www.diigo.com/user/gpotratz Categories are found in the Lists on the right side of the page.
This wiki has worked well, but it is easier for me to use Diigo , and on Nov.16 at our inservice, all of you will be trained in that as well.
There are still some links of note and interest below the videos on this page.
Welstech Podcasts - Every last Wednesday of the month Gail joins Martin Spriggs and
Sallie Draper and the focus is on technology and education.
Excellent resources in all these programs

April 2009 - I am now adding some pages labeled by subject area to the list at the right. Thought perhaps they may help you if looking for specific core content ideas.
Reading and Math Help - extensive site full of stuff for kids to work on over summer? Put on your website for kids to explore?
Educational Games Big Time! A school is starting this fall that will try to usevideo gaming concepts, etc., to teach content.
This use of gaming principles has been discussed in courses I've taken and is not as far fetched as you might think. Just read to see
where some folks have gone to try to meet the newly wired brains where they are at!
How about a disney video on copyright - so many issues came about due to disney....
Another interesting and futuristic movie to enjoy.....be aware of where we are headed.
What will our students be like:
Oh no.....Web 3.0!!!! Yup, but not today.
New tools and sites will be added here all the time. Let me know if you've got one to add. I'd like you to add your own, but as we start I'm kind of watching the organization and categories so I just want to get it in the right spot. It is hard to categorize these finds!
SPELLING CITY You can put in all words in a spelling list and get tested on the words, play games, etc. The best part…it is FREE!
Google Maps - not Earth, Maps. Maybe you've used these to find directions. This tool is great for mapwork with kids. I will have a hand out and some directions for you at an inservice, hopefully soon. Otherwise, just come and ask. Here is an example of one I did in my class this summer - I now wish I was teaching Geography. Dave? You need a google account and you have one from sharing the google calendar and working on the shared Things that Need to be Ordered last spring.
Stellarium - like Google Earth but for the solar system - be prepared to get hooked! Would be great for science unit -
could you build the unit around this and not the text? Free and powerful. Download it to your computer.
Bible Maps - like Goggle Earth for Bible Lands - not a download; just use online.
Scratch - a new programming language that lets you create your own interactive stories, animations,
games, music, and art. This will take someone like me a long time to master, but probably not the kids!
Just see what MIT has developed and shared with educators for free. It is a download; I may include it on
all computers next year - in applications.
Interactive Art Sites - Tons of fun in here, but I did not find the one I was looking for - modern art for kids to create online.
If you find that specific site, please add it here! Found it! Vicosity
Sites to have on a Classroom Webpage for Easy Access - Add more please members!
These could be bookmarks or there could be a section of useful links on the page itself.
Fact Monster reference center for everything grade school - kid friendly, useful for teachers and parents as well
FactFinder US Census Bureau puts this out for kids
CIA for Kids Facts about all countries, etc. Really kid oriented - off main CIA site which older kids might use
MW Dictionary Remake - Kind of a cool approach with lots of information for teachers also
Tools for Teachers:
4Teachers - you'll find Rubistar and lots of other great tools to manage learning/assessing Citation Tool- man I wish I'd had this all my life! Is it cheating to use technology to do the work - no, you have to be smart enough to
know the technology exists and how to apply it. This will be on the eighth grade home page! Puzzlemaker - for those legitimate times when a worksheet for review is needed! Teachnology - create timelines, classroom certificates, lots more tools on the page Zunal- similar to Quest Garden. A great place to find ndexed webquests and to be guided through creating one of your own which is stored on this site itself.
